Motorized two-wheeler safety is a major concern in Asia-Pacific, as 39.2% of road fatalities in 2016 involved motorized two-wheelers. According to WHO, in 2019, Thailand was one of the South-East Asian countries with the highest number of motorized two-wheeler fatalities.  

To address this issue and promote road safety in Thailand, a project on ‘Development of a Motorized Two-wheeler Safety Master Plan for Thailand with a Pilot Project on Road Design Improvement’ was approved by the Steering Committee of the Fund in August 2022.

On 30 September 2022, UNRSF Secretariat arranged an online information session for the participating organizations and implementing partners, including UNHABITAT, WHO, UNESCAP and local government agencies, to elaborate on a more detailed project plan and discuss potential challenges before its implementation.

By conducting a trial case study in Suphanburi Province of Thailand, a motorized two-wheeler safety master plan will be formulated to reduce motorized two-wheeler crashes, injuries and fatalities in Thailand.
