The UN Road Safety Fund is proud to join the United Nations Interagency Task Force on Non-communicable Diseases (UNIATF). 

The UNIATF provides a platform for cooperation among UN agencies, governments and non-state actors to support governments in addressing Non-communicable diseases – which includes road traffic injuries that are the leading cause of death for those aged 5-29 years.

“We know we must do more to combat global health issues in low- and middle-income countries. Road traffic injuries are a critical part of the agenda on non-communicable diseases, with over 1 million deaths worldwide each year resulting from traffic crashes. We are pleased to welcome the UN Road Safety Fund as a member of the UNIATF so that together we can move forward, working with governments and other partners to solve this complex health issue.”

As part of our shared priority to support government catalytic action on Non-communicable diseases, the Fund is working closely with partners on building road safety investment cases.

Recently funded research with UNDP in Zambia, for example, shows that introducing speed bumps can have the biggest impact in terms of averting road traffic crashes. Plans are now underway to roll out road safety investment cases in more countries to rethink mobility.
