On 5 December 2025, the UN Road Safety Fund (UNRSF) convened governments, UN partners, donors, civil society, and the private sector for its 3rd annual Open Day, held online in the lead-up to the 2026 UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Road Safety.

The Open Day showcased how UNRSF-supported projects act as catalysts for long-term policy reform, institutional capacity building, and follow-on investment. Through a series of fireside chats, participants explored real-world examples from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe—ranging from multidisciplinary crash investigations and helmet standards to people-led street transformations, sustainable financing, and enforcement reforms. Discussions also highlighted the critical role of communications and storytelling in turning technical reforms into compelling narratives that drive national ownership, policy uptake, and donor engagement.

A dedicated session on global public goods underscored how UNRSF-supported tools, manuals, and digital platforms—such as road infrastructure safety frameworks, city-level road safety alliances, and emergency care assessment tools—enable countries to replicate proven solutions and accelerate impact across regions.

To support continued learning and collaboration, UNRSF has compiled a Knowledge Kit capturing the key takeaways, best practices, and practical lessons from all sessions. The Knowledge Kit is designed as a resource for governments, implementing partners, and donors seeking to apply, scale, or invest in evidence-based road safety solutions.
