Project partners and stakeholders from UNECE, UNESCAP, UNRSF, MIROS, TZF, FIA Foundation and relevant government shared insights on how the new UNRSF project can benefit ASEAN countries by promoting enforcement of motorcycle ABS.

The rate of road fatalities in the South-East Asia subregion of ESCAP is one of the highest in the world, at 17.9 per 100,000 population. Motorized two-wheeler deaths account for 61.7% of all deaths, and in some countries such as Thailand and Indonesia, rider fatalities can be as high as 74%. One of the most effective motorized two-wheeler technologies is the anti-lock braking system (ABS), yet its penetration in South-East Asia remains low.

At the online information session, project managers and other stakeholders from UNECE, UNESCAP, MIROS, TZF and FIA Foundation elaborated on the project plan and discussed improving critical challenges before the project execution.
