At the online information session, project partners and stakeholders discuss how the new UNRSF project will contribute to road safety performance in Africa and Asia by establishing a consensus that safer, cleaner used vehicles will be exported and imported.

On 30th August, the UNRSF’s Steering Committee agreed to finance a project on ‘Safer and Cleaner Used Vehicles in low and middle-income countries (LMICs).

UNRSF Secretariat hosted an online information session to recall the project objectives and discuss its subsequent implementation.

While playing an integral part in improving mobility in many developing and transitional countries, used vehicles pose a major global challenge to road safety. Safe vehicles play a crucial role in averting crashes. However, without basic standards, and the importing of vehicles that do not fulfil minimum crash protection requirements, the risk of traffic injuries is increased considerably.

At the online information session, project partners and stakeholders from WHO, UNECA, UNECE, UNESCAP, UNECLAC, FIA, CITA, ITF, SADC, ECCAS, SICA, AUC, FIA Foundation and other exporting and importing countries shared insights on how the new UNRSF-funded project will contribute to road safety performance in Africa and Asia by establishing a consensus that only quality used vehicles will be exported and imported.
