On 12 December, the UN Road Safety Fund received a prestigious International Road Safety Award from His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent at an Awards Ceremony held in London.

For over 30 years the Awards have given public recognition to achievements and innovations of businesses or organisations that have contributed to improving road safety worldwide.

The International Road Safety Award was given to the Fund in recognition of the growing impact of its 44 projects operating in 88 low and middle-income countries across five regions.

The UNRSF-funded Ten Step Plan Project in Tanzania has also won an Award for its impact in the world-first implementation of the UNRSC Ten Step Plan for Safer Road Infrastructure.

A second initiative in the Philippines won an Award for sustainable local road safety leadership through multi-sectoral collaboration, with links to UNRSF’s Safe School Zone Models Project from 2021-2023.

I am delighted that the Fund is having such a beneficial effect on the spread of good practice in countries which need help and support.

Winning this prestigious Award is testament to the Fund’s catalytic role in championing safer roads in close to 90 low- and middle-income countries. I thank our partners for their ongoing support to the Fund’s vital efforts that are having a positive impact for road users globally.

Today, 12 December, also marks the close of the Fund’s #moments2live4 campaign. Over the last three weeks, the campaign has promoted the voices of road safety’s hidden heroes, joined by over 50 supporters from the Fund’s projects and partners.
