Country

Paraguay
In Paraguay, road traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in adolescents and young people between the ages of 15 and 29, while injuries caused by road traffic crashes have increased in the last 5 years.

These trends illustrate a major public health problem for the country, particularly among adolescents.

One of the main challenges at the national level is the promotion and uptake of the non-motorized travel, as well as the use of public transport to help reduce road traffic crashes, traffic congestion, and environmental degradation.

According to recent studies, the increase in private road transport also has placed an important burden on people's health. In addition to the injuries and deaths caused by road traffic crashes, there are other health problems such as respiratory diseases and consequences derived from increased pollution and the reduction of physical activity.
