The Republic of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, still continue to record a high number of road deaths per million inhabitants compared to the EU average. According to the data for 2021, the EU average is 44.6, while in Serbia, it is 75.82, which is an increase of 70%. In the Republic of Serbia (RS) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), middle-income and upper-middle-income countries respectively, they do not have a prescribed system or national methodology for in-depth analysis of road crashes, and there are no professionals that are trained to conduct the analysis.
One of the reactive, as well as a proactive tool that helps to improve traffic conditions to create a more resilient community in an effective and efficient way is through in-depth analysis of road accidents that identifies the contribution of humans, vehicles, road, and the environment to the occurrence of a road accident
The Republic of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are in the process of adopting road safety strategies and action plans, in which the importance of modern tools for improving road safety, is recognized and emphasized.
However, the road safety laws in both countries do not recognize in-depth analysis of road accidents as a useful tool for improving road safety. Therefore, the project aims to promote the post-pandemic road safety system in the RS and BiH by developing a prescribed national methodology for in-depth analyses of road crashes.
