The Universal Postal Union (UPU) announced the winners of the International Letter Writing Competition on Road Safety at the UPU Fourth Extraordinary Congress in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Since 1971, the UPU has hosted a letter-writing competition encouraging young writers aged 9-15 to write letters on a given theme to win exciting prizes.
For this 52nd edition, the UNRSF partnered with the UPU to launch this year's theme:
"Imagine you are a superhero, and your mission is to make all roads around the world safer for children. Write a letter to someone explaining which superpowers you need to achieve your mission."
Out of this year's 1.7 million participants from 35 countries, the top winner is Claire Gakii, a 13-year-old from Kenya. In her letter, she details the types of superpowers she needs in her conquest to make roads safer for children. The second and third prizes went to 11-year-old Matilde Magalhães Da Silva of Portugal and 12-year-old Dao Khuong Duy from Vietnam, respectively. Read the winning letters here.
