The UN Road Safety Fund (UNRSF) is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Mohammed VI International Prize for Road Safety at the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety, held in Marrakech under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

This prestigious award, launched by Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, recognizes innovative efforts in the global fight against road insecurity. For its first edition, the prize was awarded jointly to the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNRSF, acknowledging both institutions' dedication to advancing global road safety strategies.

Receiving this recognition alongside WHO reinforces the importance of our ongoing mission: supporting countries in preventing traffic-related injuries and saving lives, progress that you can explore in more depth in our Annual Report preview: Read more.

The conference also marked a critical milestone with the adoption of the Marrakech Declaration, which highlights the ongoing challenge of underfunded national road safety strategies and calls for greater investment, particularly in developing countries. The declaration specifically encourages leveraging global mechanisms—such as the UN Road Safety Fund and the Global Road Safety Facility—to promote safer road infrastructure and support the implementation of life-saving measures.

As a recipient of this first international prize, UNRSF stands with Morocco in its leadership role, encouraging all member states to intensify their commitments and prioritize the funding and implementation of national road safety strategies.

Held under the theme “Commit to Life”, this year’s conference brought together over 100 ministerial delegations, reinforcing global cooperation in the mission to make roads safer for all.
