At the UNRSF information session, experts and representatives from ESCWA, ECA, UNRSF, iRAP, EIB, IRF and relevant government agencies focused on how the new UNRSF project will benefit Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal by upgrading the quality of roads.

Geometric design standards are obsolete and focus only on motorised transport (cars, trucks, vans) in Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, which resulted in the deaths of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Therefore, a new UNRSF project was proposed to support the revision of road design standards in the focal countries.

After gaining the funding agreement by the Fund’s Steering Committee on 30 August 2022, the Fund arranged an online information session to recall, describe, and clarify the project requirements and challenges to be addressed, gathering experts and representatives from ESCWA, ECA, iRAP, EIB, IRF and relevant government agencies. At the information session, speakers shared insights on integrating vulnerable road users into formulating safer road design standards.
