The UN Road Safety Fund (UNRSF) has successfully concluded a series of Information Sessions following the 2024 Call for Proposals, bringing together project teams, government representatives, road safety experts, and potential partners. These sessions marked a critical step in refining and strengthening the newly selected projects to maximise their impact.
The discussions focused on fine-tuning project strategies, ensuring alignment with UN road safety frameworks, and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, including government agencies, UN entities, civil society, and private sector partners. A key focus was on securing long-term financing solutions to ensure the sustainability of road safety interventions.
This year’s selected projects address some of the most pressing global road safety challenges. Initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa are working to strengthen legislative measures for drink-driving, helmet use, and speed management, while a project in the Eastern Mediterranean region is improving road safety for motorcyclists (powered two- and three-wheelers). Other projects focus on unlocking sustainable financing, with countries like Mongolia, India, and the Philippines implementing innovative funding models. The Road Safety Cities Challenge will help cities design localised solutions for safer urban mobility, and initiatives in Southeast Asia and Latin America are tackling high-risk factors such as motorcycle-related fatalities.
With the Information Sessions now complete, project teams will integrate expert recommendations into their full proposals before final submission and approval.
As these projects move towards implementation, UNRSF remains committed to supporting innovative and scalable solutions that will reduce road traffic fatalities and injuries worldwide. Further updates will be shared on the UNRSF website.
