Cities should be at the forefront of road safety and climate interventions.  By 2050, 68% of the world population is projected to live in urban areas with the most rapid urbanization expected to take place in Asia and Africa. Worsening urban road safety is of particular concern, especially for vulnerable groups.

Low carbon mobility contributes to road safety – and vice versa. But there is limited capacity of cities to respond to the urban mobility challenges.

The first meeting of the Platform, to be held on the 18 January 2022, will include a discussion about ACRoS, a proposed Alliance of Cities for Road Safety.

The #NewUrbanAgenda includes measures to improve road safety and integrate it into sustainable mobility and transport infrastructure planning and design.
